1962年出生于新疆乌鲁木齐，1981年进入中央工艺美术学院（现清华大学美术学院）装潢系学习，并有幸受教于吴冠中、陈汉民等著名艺术大师。现定居深圳，漆画、漆器职业艺术家。
牛劼对当今互联网时代多元文化撞击下的中国社会思想意识形态以及生活环境变化的思考，融入到大漆艺术的创作之中。
She was born in Xinjiang, Urumqi in 1962 and was enrolled in decoration Department of Central Academy of Art and Design (now named Academy of Fine Arts of Tsinghua University) in 1981. And she was lucky enough to be taught by some famous art masters, such as Wu Guanzhong, Chen Hanmin etc. She settles in Shenzhen now and is a professional lacquer painting and lacquer ware artist.
Niu Jie integrates her own thinking about the changes on Chinese social ideology and living environment under the mutual clashes of diverse culture in contemporary internet era into the creation of lacquer art.
